Nathan van Valkengoed's work explores the evolving relationship between humans and technology; how our tools have shaped perception, communication, and cognition across centuries. His practice interrogates the ways technological systems mediate experience, often privileging efficiency, control, and progress at the expense of complexity, care, and ambiguity.
Through slowed machines, fragmented language, and glitches that resist correction, he enacts a soft refusal of computational logic. His work engages with technological failure not as a flaw but as a site of possibility, where obsolescence becomes reinvention and miscommunication opens space for new forms of understanding.
Central to his approach is an interest in translation: what is lost, distorted, or reimagined when information passes between human and machine. By foregrounding slippage, error, and entanglement, he proposes alternate modes of relation, ones that resist flattening and instead invite curiosity, co-creation, and care.
